چکیده
KASCADE-Grande is a new extensive air shower experiment colocated to the KASCADE site at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. The multi-detector system allows to investigate the energy spectrum, composition, and anisotropies of cosmic rays with unprecedented precision in the energy range from 10-10 eV. The primary goals besides investigating the origin of the knee at E ≃ 3 · 10 eV, are to verify the existence of the second knee at E ∼ 10 eV and to measure the composition in the expected transition region of galactic to extragalactic cosmic rays. The performance of the apparatus and shower reconstruction methods will be discussed on the basis of detailed Monte Carlo simulations and first data. First results based on slightly more than a year of data taking are presented.

Investigating the 2 knee: The KASCADE-Grande experiment
Recent results from the multi-detector set-up KASCADE on measurements of cosmic rays in the energy range of the so called ”first” knee (at ≈ 3PeV) indicate a distinct knee in the energy spectra of light primary cosmic rays and an increasing dominance of heavy ones towards higher energies. This leads to the expectation of knee-like features of the heavy primaries at around 100 PeV. To investigat...
متن کاملResults from the KASCADE, KASCADE-Grande, and LOPES experiments
The origin of high-energy cosmic rays in the energy range from 10 to 10 eV is explored with the KASCADE and KASCADE-Grande experiments. Radio signals from air showers are measured with the LOPES experiment. An overview on results is given.
متن کاملConfronting the EPOS-LHC model predictions on the charged particle and muon attenuation lengths of EAS with the measurements of the KASCADE-Grande observatory
KASCADE-Grande was an air-shower experiment designed to study cosmic rays between 1016 and 1018 eV. The instrument was located at the site of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany at an altitude of 110m a.s.l. and covered an area of 0.5 km. KASCADE-Grande consisted of several detector systems dedicated to measure different components of the EAS generated by the primary cosmic rays, i.e...

KASCADE-Grande is a multi detector setup for the investigation of extensive air showers in the 10 − 10 eV energy range. With the Grande array it is possible to reconstruct the shower core position, the arrival direction and the total number of charged particles in the shower. The Grande array measures in coincidence with the original KASCADE muon array consisting of 622 m shielded scintillators...
متن کاملEnergy spectrum and elemental composition of cosmic rays in the PeV region Recent results and future prospects of the KASCADE experiment
KASCADE (KArlsruhe Shower Core and Array DEtector) is determining flux spectra for different primary mass groups to disentangle the knee feature of the primary cosmic-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectra of the light element groups result in a knee-like bending and a steepening above the knee. The topology of the individual knee positions suggests a rigidity dependence. To proof the rigidity...
متن کاملKASCADE-Grande: Composition studies in the view of the post-LHC hadronic interaction models
The KASCADE-Grande experiment has significantly contributed to the current knowledge about the energy spectrum and composition of cosmic rays for energies between the knee and the ankle. Meanwhile, post-LHC versions of the hadronic interaction models are available and used to interpret the entire data set of KASCADE-Grande. In addition, a new, combined analysis of both arrays, KASCADE and Grand...
